As XML makes inroads to every area of software technology, the focused has turned from data representation to storage and retrieval. However, the efficiency of modern XML database systems has remained untested.
This paper examines the query performance of Xindice, a native XML database developed by the Apache Software Foundation. MySQL is used as a baseline measure of database query performance, and through a series of benchmarks, both databases are tested to establish performance metrics.
